Are Your Photos Being Stolen

While it's true that the use of digital cameras has made it much more difficult for photos to be stolen, it still happens. Those of us who are taking photos and having the film developed by a shop or retail establishment are still at risk.

If you leave film to be developed, don't be afraid to question them about photos you know should be there. Keep a record of missing photos, especially if your photos are not of family members, etc.

Start a simple file using the proof that has the little icon photos on it, and mark or make a note on the back of any ones that were missing.

On one occassion, I'm personally aware of , several photos of flowers and humming birds were missing when the photos were picked up. The owners of the photos were simply told that -not all of them came out.

A few months later the exact same photos were seen entered into a local photo contest at a county fair. It's just too unreal for the person to believe that someone took identical pictures, mainly because in the very edge of one of the pictures , just barely visible was the fin
e edge of a statue that was in this persons yard.

So , it does happen and it happens more than you may realize.

On another occassion the photos were shown on the composite proof that has the little icons of each photo, but the actual photos were never found.

This is just one of those things that you don't give much thought to, until it happens to you or to someone you know.

There was also an occassion when a series of pencil drawings was left at a print shop to be copied onto card stock for notecards. It was a complete line of twelve dog breed drawings. The drawings simply vanished and the person had to take the company to court to try and find the art work.

It was never found and the company had to pay an amount of money set by the judge of a local court. (Don't worry, they've gone out of business now.)

As our economy continues to spiral downward, you may see more of these types of things happening.

Just try to be more diligent in knowing where your photos went or where your drawings are.

If you see that someone has something identical, don't be afraid to question them. It's your right.
