BEHIND THE TEARS
Karen is 16 year old. Studied in high school with good scholastic record. Lively and easy to make friends. They are a well-to-do family. Her parents can afford what she wanted in life. The only child they cared and loved. There were times Karen easily got tired and gone to her room and rest without telling her parents why. there are times that she lack interest in going to school. She just wanted to be alone. This change in behavior worried her parents. They even suggested to her to have medical check-up to determine her tiredness but she declined saying that there's nothing wrong with her but her parents were suspicious.
Months had past, there was changes in the grades of Karen. The once lively child now wanted to be alone all the time. In school her classmate observed her that she no longer friendly and if she asked she will not respond.
This was the time her teacher consulted her parents and informed them of their observation to the attitude Karen showed. His teacher worried the continued dropping of her grades that she may be failed in school.
During the vacant period, something gone wrong. When she looked to portion of the building, she became dizzy and likely to collapse. She asked her classmate to help her. A minute later her vision cleared away.
She did not tell her parents about this. She just keep it to herself. But this incident repeated several times, the loss of vision. While she walked to the library, suddenly the world upside down, holding to the wall of the building trying to stand up but she collapsed without asking for help. Without delay, they brought Karen to school clinic for treatment. After a few minutes, she felt relieved and her composure came back.
Her teacher informed her parents what happened to Karen. This is the time she told her parents all the incidents that occurred in losing her vision. Without delay, they brought her to the hospital. In order to determine the cause of his collapse, she is required to undergo a complete medical check-up from urinalysis up to his blood condition. Eleven medical tests done to her before he give his medical findings.
They horrified when they heard the verdict. Karen had leukemia developing into stage-2 level. They did not believe what they heard. They even questioned the doctor that it is not possible because there is no sign they observe that the disease is already existed months ago. To be sure, the doctor inform them to asked another medical opinion from other doctors to confirm about the disease.
Another medical check-up done and finally it confirmed what they feared. The disease continue progressing. When Karen collapsed in school, those are the beginning.
By seeing them you cannot explain your feeling what you see. Too much emotion, too much tears. The grief of her mother is visible in her face. The joy that they have in the early years of their child's development became sadness that creep into their heart. They don't understand why life was wasted so easily.
They told Karen so she will know. They wanted to be honest with her and told her everything about the findings. According to the doctor he cannot determine yet what's left in Karen's life but that hour is inevitable. When they went home, Karen gone to her room crying all she could. The medication did not ease the grief Karen felt.
Another months had passed, the condition of Karen worsen. This prompted her parents to put her in the hospital care. She was under all types of treatments as the leukemia is now progressing very fast into the level of 4. She already very thin with a pale white face as the result of her condition.
Then the hour came. Behind her tears, Karen still hoping that a miracle will happen to heal her. The hope will never happen.
Behind the tears, her parents accepted the fact that they cannot save their daughter. Its painful. They just let their tears flow from their eyes without controlling it.
Karen died 3 hours later. In her last hour, Karen did not give up her hope that she can still live, a dream that never happen.
