Bringing up a two year old kid
Being parents for the first time is the most amazing feeling one can ever experience. The joy of holding a small baby wrapped in soft cloth, looking at its face, its tiny eyes and nose. One starts to think of it as a miracle, and indeed it is a miracle.
You bring the little one home and the house fills up with joy and love. Everything revolves around the baby. Your schedule and your priorities change, keeping the little one in mind. Every parent wants to give their child all the time in the world, all the love and do everything to see the baby smile.
As time goes by, it's amazing to see how fast the baby grows and how quickly he or she responds to dad and mom. By now the baby is out of its soft wrap-around and is ready to wear small colourful clothes. You start to enjoy the rapid movements of its hands and legs, and the best part is when those tiny little fingers touch your face. Soon it's time to celebrate the baby's first birthday! You decorate the house, bake a fancy cake, invite your friends and family and have a good time. The little one doesn't understand what happening all around him, but you make every effort to make him feel special.
Now your child is a year old. He speaks to you in a funny language that only the two of you understand. You make funny faces to make your child laugh and that at time brings a tear to your eye.
As your child grows, he becomes more and more active. You start wondering, from where does he get so much energy? He starts to understand when you are angry if he throws his cereal bowl down. And when you are happy to see him eat his meals without fuss.
At two, your child is more aggressive. More often wants things his way. You may have to give up your favourite movie to let him watch cartoon on the TV... I have to do that most of the time J, but it's fun. By now your child tries to imitate you actions. Kids pick up words fast and it is important for parents to understand and be careful what they speak in front of their kids. At times not being careful will only leave you embarrassed in front of friends and family when you kid just says something that sounds completely of this world, I am sure you must have had this experience just as I did.
But the most rewarding thing of all is that when you see your child grow stronger, healthier, and well mannered, just the way your parents brought you up.
Kids will be kids, it is up to us as parents to inculcate the right habits, and teach them what is right and wrong in a way that they understand and retain.
