A babysitter background check should be made on any candidate you plan to hire.  Not unless you know a babysitter's family, as well as her personal background, for umpteen years, it is important to learn about a candidate well enough.

Babysitters are unlike nannies because they only provide childcare services occasionally, when you need them.  Babysitters should not be younger than 16 years old, not so you will not be sued for child labor, but because you know that caring for a child, especially very young children, can be extremely demanding.  Thus, you need to perform a background check, to know if you hired a person who is up to the responsibility of childcare and has a clean background.

A babysitter background check should be made on any candidate you plan to hire.  Not unless you know a babysitter's family, as well as her personal background, for umpteen years, it is important to learn about a candidate well enough. Never rush on things especially when it concerns babysitters to avoid regrets later on.  Remember that your child's/children's welfare is left to a babysitter.  There are many things that could happen in a few hours while you're away from your child.

If you've a suitable candidate that you feel is responsible enough to care for your child, consider the following babysitter background check questions.

Questions to ask
Interviews must be scheduled at appropriate times, and a candidate should be more than willing to show you her verifiable references.  These could be previous employers or a babysitter agency she previously worked with (if applicable).  Repeat business is a stellar proof of a babysitter's good standing, not to mention that the children probably loves her, too.

Another thing to examine during a babysitter background check is her criminal background, if there are any.  This includes criminal offenses such as being involved in criminal cases or hefty financial history, which can also indicate irresponsible behavior.  If you’re hiring a babysitter yourself, and not through an agency, you need to do a babysitter background check yourself.  Furthermore, even if you are going through an agency, it is still important to screen the agency of the type of details they obtain in their background checks and what type of screenings they perform.

The criminal history of a person is a distinguishing information of a candidate's personality.  You may ask the candidate to apply for an FBI clearance.  This is the only way you can be assured that a babysitter is free of pending or past criminal charges.  The FBI may have a list of all criminal histories in the U.S. but they do not make this public.

Always do a babysitter background check to ensure the safety of your child while in the care of a stranger.
