MeFertil or can iPhone help you get pregnant?

Baby making is a confusing process. Who would have thought that so many of us would spend years and hundreds of dollars trying to make sure it didn't happen accidentally only to find out that when the time was right, our bodies seemingly weren't ready.

The first few months are fun. You look at your partner and start envisioning little miniature version to spoil rotten. Will the baby have his eyes? Or mine? Will he have his cute nose and my big ears? Will she have my funny feet and his curly hair? And then six months later you lay there thinking: "is it ever going happen?" You cry with every sign of PMS. And again. And again. And at the same time it seems that the entire world around you is having babies, including teenage pop-stars or your 47-year old neighbor. Just not you. The baby making that once was fun is suddenly a chore that you mark in your calendar.

As twelve months rolls over, you make the trip to your ob. She asks the standard questions, runs some lab work and offers drugs or referrals to fertility specialist. Mine did neither of this. She sent me home without a referral or a prescription, armed only with a pamphlet about basal body temperature monitoring and recommendation to buy BBT thermometer. She asked us to give it a shot, to figure out how my body was working. When (or if) was it actually ovulating? Truthfully, very often I didn't know. My cycles were so irregular, sometime lasting thirty days and sometimes ninety. Ovulation was very expensive chemistry project of peeing on a stick daily for weeks until there would be positive. Often I thought I just wished it to appear.

So there I was, with my BBT thermometer, charts and a pencil on the nightstand table, setting my alarm clock to the same hour on weekdays and the weekends to
keep my records consistent. However tedious, charting suddenly opened my eyes and I started to have a whole new understanding as to why things weren't happening. I wasn't ovulating!

What I also discovered was the need to have a portable tool to track my information. I kept losing my numbers or forgetting them before having a chance to log into my computer. Every time my husband and I traveled I was printing our paper charts to plot my temps by hand like as if it was 1970s. I was frustrated and annoyed at the process at the same time when I needed to relax and "think happy thoughts". And then the idea of MeFertil was born.

If you are like most people, you don't go anywhere without your mobile phone. It is one the most functional and widely used gadget and most of us own (at least) one. I still remember my excitement when I saw the first generation iPhone and I had to have it. I loved absolutely everything about it and the idea of fertility charting on a device that is always with me was so obvious and simple. I married a mathematician and software developer who also became a fertility expert in the process. We started writing MeFertil application for iPhone having full understanding of the need, functionality demands and most importantly its end user. The birth process wasn't easy and you can imagine how complex MeFertil is in order to calculate all the information, yet it is so easy to use and offers unsurpassed convenience. We are incredibly excited about its success and can't wait to hear about the first babies being born with its help. We have clients around the world, from Japan to Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Switzerland and all over U.S. and we hope that all of them will be success stories and that we will get to hear about many of them.

And yes, we became a success story as well. My husband and I are proud and happy parents of beautiful twins. We cannot imagine our lives without them.

I WAS SO EXCITED TO FIND THIS APP. I WAS DOING THE ARCHAIC PAPER CHARTING AND IT WAS HORRIBLE. IT TAKES ALL THE GUESSWORK OUT OF WHAT ALL THE CHARING MEANS!!
