Practical Tips for Parenting Toddlers

Parenting toddlers can be both very difficult and satisfying all together. The happiness of seeing your baby’s behavior develop as she grows will overcome the hardships of guiding them as they try to become independent. To help you with parenting toddlers, you can follow the tips discussed below.

One of the most basic things you have to learn in parenting toddlers is how to get your baby to take a bath. You can try different things like using toys, bubbles, coloring solutions or playing music. Consistent but fun routines like letting your kids play with toys while taking a bath can give them control and make them want to take a bath. You can also try letting them play in the tub without water to get used to being there.

Another important task in parenting toddlers is brushing your baby’s teeth. Once your baby’s teeth start protruding, you can immediately start cleaning them by wiping them using a clean moist washcloth. As more teeth shows up, you can start using a soft baby’s toothbrush. In brushing their teeth, you should only use a pea-size amount of baby toothpaste until your baby is able to spit it out. Too much fluoride can stain your baby’s teeth.

It is often difficult to get toddlers to brush their teeth. To make them do so, you can:

1. Brush your teeth together with your toddler
2. Allow your child to pick out few toothbrushes that has his or her favorite characters. You should then allow your child to choose the toothbrush that he or she wants each time your child brushes. This will give your baby a sense of control over brushing.
3. Let your baby brush his or her teeth with a little supervision.

Biting is a common behavior of toddlers and this increases when they get tired or frustrated over something. You should not over react when this situation happens but instead teach your baby that biting is not a good behavior. To correct this behavior, follow the guidelines below:

1. Look your baby in the eye and then say “no” out loud. Let your baby know that biting hurts.
2. Always supervise your baby when with other children so that you can interrupt any behavior that may result in biting.
3. You should never over react or bite your baby back to let them know that it hurts. This will give them an impression that it is alright to hurt others.

Potty training is also important in parenting toddlers. This should begin as early as 2 to 3 years old. You should look for signs like staying dry, regular bowels and being uncomfortable with diapers. When detecting these signs, you should begin teaching your baby to use the potty chair or toilet. However, it is extremely important that you supervise your child.
