The point in which a person or an individual completely puts a halt to his or her employment status is what commonly called as retirement. However, anyone has the option whether to fully retire or just semi-retire, depending on the nature of one’s work. This case usually happens when a person reaches some physical condition that calls for such decision like accident or illness, or due to personal choice carried out by personal savings or adequate pension. To retire with a pension is still an issue debated in many societies whether it will be taken as a right of the employee or not. And in most western countries, the right to acquire pension after retirement is clearly stated in their national constitutions.
In several countries, the idea of a retirement age came some time in the 19th and 20th centuries. Prior to this, the lack of pension arrangements indicated that workers then worked until their death, or relied on family or friends’ support or their personal savings. But at present, most nations developed systems that provide pensions on anyone who retires at an old age. The state or the employers may sponsor such pensions. However, in the poorer countries, the aged still seek support from their families.
When can a person actually retire? Retirement age differs from every country, though generally, it falls between 55 and 70 years old. For various countries, age varies for females and males. And in certain jobs especially those that are most stressful and highly dangerous, an early retirement age is set. Employees on these specific jobs may retire at a younger age than most retirees. Police officers in America are allowed to retire with a half pay after being in the service for 20 years or will be receiving a three-quarter pay if working for 30 years. However, those who need care but not that constant assistance may opt to go and live in some retirement home situated in their state or wherever they want to stay. A retirement home is a special facility for retired persons, providing them the freedom to be themselves, while at the same time, equipped with a close-by medical assistance in cases of emergencies.
Retirement discontinues should the retiree decides to work again. Reasons for a retiree to want to go back to work range from financial difficulties to the plain reason of wanting to have something to get busy on or for social interactions or to simply engage in a new activity.
