How do you know which one is best?

First decide whether you would like a healing cream that is combined with a barrier or just a separate healing cream and a separate barrier cream.

Once you have decided what you need then decide whether the healing cream you use will be medicated with a pharmaceutical medication, or will it just have natural healing herbs and natural healing oils.

Will the barrier you use be petrochemical based such as zinc, mineral oils or paraffin, or will it be a natural barrier such as beeswax, caster oil, sesame seed oil or olive oil. Choose what you feel is best for your baby's delicate skin.

Some people will feel more confident using pharmaceutical creams where as others are more discriminating and only want to use natural ingredients on their child's skin.

This is because whatever you rub into the skin gets absorbed into the bloodstream, and baby's skin is much thinner than adult skin, and many times more sensitive, therefore absorbing what you rub into it more readily.

Many people have become aware that creams that contain synthetic and petrochemical ingredients can cause allergies, skin irritations and other health problems if used long term, and so will prefer to use a cream with natural ingredients for every day use.

Some people will prefer a quick acting pharmaceutical cream if they are just using it for a few days to treat a diaper rash and will then use a natural cream after the rash has cleared, for daily use. Others will only want to use natural healing herbs. It is a matter of what you feel most confident with and what you trust most.

You may also wish to alternate between the creams you use every so often, to give the skin a break from the ingredients you are using.

You may find that you only need a barrier cream at night for protection and use nothing on the skin during the day (unless they have a rash that needs treating).

What ever you decide to use – just use what you feel is best for your child.
